My baby!

Announcing the arrival of my new baby.

The Toshiba M600!

I love it. It's white though, but nevertheless looks good.

Maybe I should name my laptop. Snowy? Snow white? Princess?

Went to the Comex and bought it for $1999.

Specs:
Duo 2 Processor 1.7GHz
2 GB DDR2 Ram
13.3" screen
1.89kg
120 GB SATA memory
in-built web cam / modem
fingerprint sensor

Worth right? Well, even if it is not, please lie and tell me it's worth! Haha!

Disgusting!!!!!

Absolutely disgusting!

On my way home on 187, this auntie sat next to me.

Nevermind that that were so many other seats in the bus. Just thought that probably because she wanted to avoid the sun (which was indeed very hot).

Just as the bus was turning out of the terminal, she started picking her nose, with her right hand. For a few seconds. Alright, I thought, probably nose was itchy.

And as the bus reached the first stop, there she was picking the other side with her left hand! Oh gross and she was like flicking it everywhere.

And I thought that was the end. I mean how much nose shit can a person have right?

For the whole nearly 30 minutes in the bus, she was picking non-stop. Imagine that!

Well, you would ask, why don't you shift?

The thing is, I was so digusted, I didn't even want to pass her (as she was sitting on the outer seat) for fear that I may brush again her absolutely disgustingly filthy hands, legs or whatever.

Ok, so as I was about to alight, I realized that she was going to alight the same bus stop that I was going to alight too. And, we walked off in the same direction, but a nearby block. Ewwww!

I would have loved to tell her off, but ever watched the Singapore Aunties videos on you-tube? I don't want to be their victims of terror. Just had to squeeze myself to the side of the bus keep as big a gap as possible from her.

Which should I choose?

Been scouting for a laptop, or rather a notebook.

Ok, just to sidetrack. Do you know the difference between a laptop and a notebook? (And I don't mean the notebook that is made from paper)

According to my AAE101 class, all these were know just a laptop then because people used to put it on their laps and used them. Well we all do know the history of laptops and how bulky, heavy and overheated it all way. So, some companies, I shall not name, became our saviour and came out with light weight and user friendly laptops, which they named as notebook. Probably because people carry them around and use them as a notebook!

Ok, so semantics aside. My parents gave the go ahead for me to buy a notebook. They said they'll sponsor me as a reward for getting into the degree program! Though I don't have to think of the money, I still do not want them to spend so much. My brother went with me and my dad to SimLim today and kept telling me to get the high end products, which have dedicated graphics. I need a laptop for work, not for gaming! And there he was, keep telling me to choose the one he likes. I was thinking like "hello? I'm the one getting the laptop and I must like it. Stop telling me what to choose." Irritated the hell outta me.

Anyway, so after scouting, my dad and I came down to 3 choices.

Weird that this link shows a black laptop, but after viewing today, every other place is selling white.

Computer experts. Opinions please.
I don't need top quality graphics. I just want a lightweight laptop with specs enough for me to do my school work.

My favourite of the three is the Toshiba, but I'm looking at it just based on outlook. The specs differ slightly from the links because I think each shop offers different things too. Shall for IT fair next week and probably get it then.

Oh yeah!

The first group to present and I must say that I think we've set the standard high for the class. It was a good job! Kudos to all my group mates - Sylvia, Shu xin, Pamela and Yusri. We spent practically everyday last week working hard for this presentation and it is finally over. What a relieve. Like this group a lot. I would say that we've all put in a lot of effort and have good vibes.

The gallery walk my group did. On the walls, we pasted mahjong paper and got our classmates to write their feelings and reflections on it.

The names tags. We were all ambassadors of humanity today. Shu xin as Miss Responsibility. Sylvia as Miss Justice. Pamela as Miss Golden Rule (Always put yourself in others' shoe). Yusri as Mr Love. Myself as Miss Integrity. I wrote the wordings on the name tag.

Me! with my name tag, looking so completely zoned out after the whole thing.

I need to regain back my energy. Sleep!! Good night.

Updates!

Thursday (16th August 2007)

I would say one of the more lonlier days of my life. It started with a heavy downpour on my way to school for lesson at 9.30am. And while in the bus, I was thinking, how nice if I didn't have school and was in bed now sleeping. The thing is, all my friends do not have to go back for lessons on Thursday, except for me. Had my AAE201 tutorial in the morning. So true enough, since my friends were all not around, that left me in a totally alien class. People who I don't know. Only talked to someone from my AED105 class, but that was rather minimal too. Following, I had a 4 hour break. Luckily, my project members said they wanted to discuss our upcoming presentation. So 3 hours of my 4 hours were covered. Had the final hour alone. And the tutorial class after that, I didn't know anyone too. How lonely!

I was so looking forward to the end of the day after school because I could meet laogong. And I went to Jurong Point to wait for him because he said he'll meet me there at 5pm. Right. He said. But never did. In the end I meet his sister at Boon lay at 7pm to go to his place, without him! So frustrating right? Yet, I can't say anything because he was having his job interview - for hours! And that was my Thursday.

Friday (17th August 2007)
Thanks to my dear twinnie who got me tickets to go to the fireworks festival at Marina Bay. It was really lovely and my first time seeing fireworks that close. You could call me a mountain tortise but yah, that was my first time. I've never been to any National Day parades and such and that explains why I've not seen fireworks that close. It was amazing! Lovely. Worth the squeeze through the crowds to enter the seating gallery. Totally enjoyed myself. And to top up to the surprises, I had to meet my cousin, Joyce there too! Likewise with my twinnie, she too bought her tickets from her school.

Will try to see if I can get some pictures and the video from my twinnie and upload it here.

Saturday (18th August 2007)
Just had a lovely dinner. Crabs (again), Pei lai (a type of cockles) and Bak Ku Teh. Fantastic! What can I say about my dad's cooking other than shiok!

Brand new look (again!)

Ok, so after all the hoo-ha to get my hair permed, I finally went to get my hair rebonded today. It was a little heartache at first because I really liked my curls. However due to some reasons, I had to give it up.
1. Maintaneance. Every time before I go out, I have to style my hair. Put the cream, blah blah blah.
2. Knots and tangles. Hate them. Spend at least 15 minutes everyday untangling those knots.
3. Hair drop. Because of the knots, sometimes I tug and pull some hair and it drops!

After doing my hair at the salon at Bukit Batok Central, I have no regrets. Went with Yanxin today. She rebonded her fringe while I did my whole head. Thankfully she accompanied me, if not I would have died of boredom. Her hairstyle's cute!

So this is how I look like now. Long hair! Well, after trimming off about an inch.

Am sick since National Day, which is last Thursday. Runny nose and cough. Lots and loads of phlegm. Gross and sickening. So irritating. Hope to get better soon.

I'm an Undergrad!!

I feel like a student all over again. What Gillian said is so true. For the last few months we've been teaching and now it feels weird again for us to be sitting down and listening to our lecturers. A total switch of roles.

Textbooks are super costly! So far, I've bought only 4 textbooks and the total price is already nearly $130 and I think I have somemore to get.

Finally collected my NIE/NTU card. Wheeeee~! I'm a student totally eligible for student prices again. And reading Linda's blog, I realized that I can call myself an undergraduate! I've never thought of it until I read her blog. So cool.

Drove to school today. How I wish I could drive everyday. Saves time but is rather costly. Nevermind, I am going to get unlimited bus rides. Gonna get my bus concession soon.

Today heard a piece of news. Heard from someone that my batch of Dip-Eders cross over percentage is at 40%! That explains the number of people. Anyway, was in my AAE104 class and then I realized that we are having this module together with those from this year's Dip-Ed intake and they are doing DSE100. Which means, it is as good as I am retaking my year 1 module again. Wonder why we are not exempted but well, nevermind. I'll strive to do well. This aside, I think the intake this year for those doing the diploma program is small. Because the lecture theatre had about 200+ students and the module coordinator said that 120 are from the degree program. Which means the intake for diploma is only abt 100 odd at most.

Now for the update on the last few days. When I thought no one wanted to go out with me last Friday, Elizabeth said ok and so we went to causeway point and caught harry potter. It was fun going out with her and having heart to heart talk with her. She's really one sweet honey who gives me lots of encouragement.

Saturday went to return my NIE gown and to Chomp Chomp for dinner with laogong. Today went to Causeway point with Lydia. Went to ktv.

Drove on all days. It's so fun driving! Wish I have a car.

Last day of teaching (till 2 years later)

I'm in school blogging now. And I'm feeling good today! It's the last day of work here at this school.

No more relief classes. No more art classes. No more health education classes. I'm back to pure studying now. Oh yes!

Unfortunately, my timetable is really horrible.
Monday 0830 to 1530 (with break from 1330 to 1430)
Tuesday 1730 to 1830
Wednesday 0830 to 1930 (with breaks from 1030 to 1230 and 1330 to 1830) - a total of 6 hours!
Thursday 0930 to 1630 (with break from 1130 to 1530)
Friday 1530 to 1730

It's crazy with the amount of break time. Think I may get my own laptop.

I want to go celebrate my last day here today but no one is free to go out with me. Sigh.

Very full

Wow! I'm so full and bloated. Just had a great time at my house, having steamboat with the following people.
1. Laogong
2. Twinnie
3. Reza (twinnie's bf)
4. Ian (my brother!)
5. One of my brother's many gfs (I forgot her name =x)

Bought lots of food. We had:

  • Scallops
  • Salmon
  • Wanton
  • Sotong ball
  • Fish ball
  • Toufu
  • Egg toufu
  • Prawn
  • Xiao bai cai
  • Chinese cabbage
  • Straw mushroom
  • Shitake mushroom
  • Button mushroom
  • Oyster mushroom
  • Corn
  • Sze Chuan vegetable
  • Nuggets
  • Crab stick
  • Sausages

It's really really good. But I'm so exhausted now because of the washing up, preparation and packing. Oh well, nevermind.

So the question is, why steamboat? The reasons are:

1. I have a craving for steamboat - at home.

2. It's Reza's birthday (yesterday).

3. Twinnie smsed me saying she feels like eating steamboat.

And so, steamboat! It would be much better if everyone could stay till late and we all played some board games till the wee hours of the morning. Guess there'll be a chance someday. A chalet will be a good idea. Ok, that's in my next upcoming plan. Oh wait! My brother used my name to book for his chalet. Gheez, gotta shelf this idea then.

Not forgetting, we had a black forest cake. We finished the 0.5kg cake. Lots of cream but well, edible. Hope Reza had a good time!

I've decided on 2 life-altering decisions.

Firstly, to make a pair of spectacles, with those thick frames. I think it will compliment my image of a teacher. Ok ok, I'll look nerdy but I keep thinking of those frames ever since I tried them on like a few months ago. Tried my brother's spectacles of degree 100. I felt giddy in them, though images appeared a little clearer. But I just had my eyesight tested. It was still 6/6 on both sides. Maybe my degree is just 50 or 75 perhaps. The thing is, should I make the spectacles with degree or just get a clear lens with no degree?

Second, I think I really want to rebond my hair. Although I look nice with permed hair, I'm sick and tired of fighting the knots every morning. When should I do it? Before I start school at NIE or after I get my pay in August?

Come on people, comments, opinions, criticism, whatever. Send them in!

Update on my parents - They are well doing ok, I guess. Mum said they won't call everyday because it's pointless. No news is good news, that's what she said. The other day she called and said everyone's ok. They are in the city but it is still very under developed. Potholes everyone and taking the van was a rather bumpy ride. They are leading a very prayful life these few days. Hehe. Continue to pray for them and hope that they remain safe and sound throughout the next few remaining days in Cebu.

Blabberings...

The untrained teacher who is taking over my timetable is here. My comments on her aren't very pleasing. I shan't say more about here. It ends here. Full-stop.

Had a good day yesterday. Went with laogong and twinnie to Clementi Partyworld ktv. Sang until I was really tired. I wanna go again!

Oh yeah having steamboat this Sunday at my house. Just a cosy session of the 4 of us. Me, laogong, twinnie and her bf.

Waiting for my mum to come online. She smsed me this morning saying she'll be online at 10.30pm. It's 10.40pm now. She's late, but nevermind, probably she's enjoying herself over there. Hope mum and dad are having a good time.
